Separating Diffuse and Specular Reflection Components Based-on Surface Color Ratio and Chromaticity

چکیده
A method to separate diffuse and specular reflection components is presented. The method is based on color, particularly on surface color ratio and chromaticity. We define surface color ratio as an invariant to specularity, shading and shadow and use it to detect diffuse pixels. There are three principle steps in our method: diffuse pixels identification, image normalization and reflection components separation. The experimental results show that the proposed method is very accurate and robust for uniform colored dielectric inhomogeneous surfaces under single colored scene illumination.

Reflection Components Separation based on Chromaticity and Noise Analysis
Highlight reflected from inhomogeneous objects is the combination of diffuse and specular reflection components. The presence of highlight causes many algorithms in computer vision to produce erroneous results. To resolve this problem, a method to separate diffuse and specular reflection components is required. This paper presents such a method, particularly for objects with uniformly colored s...
متن کاملA New Projection Space for Separation of Specular-Diffuse Reflection Components in Color Images
In this paper, we propose a new reflectance separation model to separate the diffuse and specular reflection components. The model is based on a two-dimensional space called Ch-CV space, which is spanned by maximum chromaticity and the coefficient of variation (CV) of RGB color. The space exhibits a more direct correspondence to diffuse and specular reflection components than the RGB color spac...
متن کاملReal-Time Specular Highlight Removal Using Bilateral Filtering
In this paper, we propose a simple but effective specular highlight removal method using a single input image. Our method is based on a key observation the maximum fraction of the diffuse color component (so called maximum diffuse chromaticity in the literature) in local patches in color images changes smoothly. Using this property, we can estimate the maximum diffuse chromaticity values of the...
متن کاملSpecularity Removal using Dark Channel Prior
The reflectance of inhomogeneous objects can be described as a linear combination of diffuse and specular reflection components. Most computer vision algorithms assume that visually observable surfaces consist only of diffuse reflection. The existence of specular reflection can be misleading to these computer vision algorithms. A new algorithm dark channel prior based specularity removal is pro...
متن کاملSimple and efficient method for specularity removal in an image.
For dielectric inhomogeneous objects, the perceived reflections are the linear combinations of diffuse and specular reflection components. Specular reflection plays an important role in the fields of image analysis, pattern recognition, and scene synthesis. Several methods for the separation of the diffuse and the specular reflection components have been presented based on image segmentation or...
